Rolled & Welded Steel Cylinders

🏭 Oil, Gas & Chemical ⚙️ Up to 200mm Plate Thickness 🛡️ ASME & EN Compliant

Heavy Industrial Cylinder & Shell Fabrication

Rolled steel cylinders serve as the critical foundational skeleton for the world's most extreme operating environments—from deep-vacuum storage tanks and offshore structural pylons to ultra-high-pressure vessel shells.

Operating one of the largest forming divisions in Asia, Openex is equipped with over ten state-of-the-art 3-roll and 4-roll plate bending machines. Whether working with structural carbon steels or exceptionally difficult-to-form exotic alloys like Inconel and Hastelloy, we flawlessly transition flat heavy-gauge plates into seamless cylindrical sections spanning up to 5 meters in diameter.

Maximum Plate Rolling Limits

Our precision CNC rolling setups drastically minimize the flat end lengths associated with standard bending, securing perfect diametrical concentricity before tack welding.

Dimensional Scope Openex Verified Capacity
Max Plate Thickness Up to 200 mm (Cold/Hot Rolling limits variable by alloy hardness)
Max Cylinder Diameter 5000 mm (5 Meters)
Max Cylinder Length (Single Roll) 4250 mm (Can be multi-section circumferentially welded)
Min Formation Radius As tight as 150 mm (Subject to plate thickness ratio)
Supported Technologies 3-Roll and 4-Roll configurations, High-tonnage CNC integration.

Metallurgical Compatibility

Rolling heavy metals generates tremendous mechanical strain across plate fiber structures. Having full metallurgical control prevents surface micro-cracking and material deformation during extreme arcs. We successfully shape and certify cylinders in:

  • Carbon & Structural Steels A36, Q235, Q345, A516 (PVQ grade), A572 GR50
  • Exotics & High Yield (HSLA) S355, Q690D, A514, Inconel 625, Hastelloy, Monel 400
  • Stainless & Marine Grades 304L, 316L, 309, 310 Stainless; Aluminum 5083, 5052, 6061 T6
  • Abrasion-Resistant Alloy (AR) Hardox® 400/450/500, AR400, AR450 Series

Our End-to-End Cylindrical Workflows

1

Advanced Plate Preparation

Initial plates undergo high-power automated profiling and extreme precision bevelling via CNC multi-axis machines, guaranteeing precise fit-up grooving to AWS requirements prior to loading onto the rolling platform.

2

Automated Heavy Cylinder Seam Welding

Once formed, joint tolerances are mechanically verified before utilizing tandem automated Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and heavy multi-pass MIG systems for both inner and outer diametrical longitudinal sealing.

3

Quality Inspection & Machining Interfacing

In-process Laser Scanner trackers maintain out-of-round tolerances flawlessly. Shells routinely transfer straight into finishing bays for flange attachments, custom bore drilling, or 100% Volumetric Ultrasonic weld-tracing tests (UT NDT).
